Sayulita’s mix of beach, jungle, and genuinely walkable town center makes it a great fit for a multigenerational family reunion — there’s enough for grandparents, parents, and kids to each find their own pace, without anyone needing a car to get to it. Here’s how to plan one well.
Start With Where Everyone Sleeps
The single biggest factor in a reunion going smoothly is keeping the group together instead of splitting across hotels. A private villa large enough for the whole family means shared meals happen naturally, nobody’s coordinating separate check-outs, and there’s a common space for everyone to actually be together at the end of the day. Activities That Work for Every Age
- The beach, split by ability. Sayulita’s main beach has real surf, so younger kids and less confident swimmers do best in the calmer water near the south end, by the river mouth, while older kids and adults take surf lessons (most schools take children as young as 5 or 6).
- Sayuparke. A free, fenced community playground on Calle Playa Azul, open 8am–8pm daily — an easy place to let younger kids run while the rest of the group relaxes nearby.
- A boat charter. Half- or full-day charters out to the Marietas Islands cover snorkeling, fishing, and island exploring, and work well as a full-family outing.
- Horseback riding through the jungle and along the beach, and gentler jungle hikes with bird- and plant-spotting, both suit a wide age range.
- Zip-lining through the jungle canopy is the one to save for older kids and teens.
- Turtle rescue experiences, seasonal, are a genuinely memorable shared activity for a group with kids.
A Few Practical Things Worth Planning Around
Sayulita is a safe, family-oriented town, but it’s worth building in the same basics you would for any beach trip: reef-safe sunscreen and water shoes for the kids, a look at ocean conditions before anyone swims, and care on the cobblestone streets after dark, especially for grandparents. If anyone in the group needs specialty baby food, formula, or specific medications, bring them from home — pharmacies carry the basics, but not everything. Pack ‘n plays, high chairs, and other baby gear are available locally to rent if you’d rather not travel with them.
