The house opens rather than unfolds. One great room runs from the front door to a wall of glass, and past it the garden terrace and the pool — so the first thing you see on arriving is water. Parota, the dense golden hardwood of this coast, carries through everything: the floating staircase, the island, the cabinetry, the doors. Ceilings are high, the light stays warm all afternoon, and the rooms are finished with Mexican work rather than resort furniture — woven palm, macramé, patterned encaustic tile, a stone waterfall wall at the pool.
It was built to be lived in by a whole group at once, which is why so much of it comes in twos.

A full house changes what matters. Eight people under one roof don’t need a grander living room so much as a second kitchen, a second laundry, and a floor plan that lets the early risers make coffee without walking past anyone’s bedroom door.
Villa Vargas is built that way. Both kitchens are real kitchens — two stoves, two refrigerators, filtered water on each floor, and a washer and dryer upstairs and down. The bedrooms divide the same way: the master on the main level, two more above it, each with its own ensuite, so nobody is queuing for a bathroom at eight in the morning.
Outside, the terrace does the rest. A heated pool, shade when you want it, a grill and an outdoor kitchen for the evenings that turn into dinner. The beach is a seven-minute walk and the town just past it, though the street itself stays quiet. A golf cart — how Sayulita actually gets around — can be rented in house.
